Primary teachers urge AL govt to implement its manifesto
Bangladesh Primary Teachers' Association yesterday urged the newly-elected Awami League government to implement its election promises. The association also congratulated Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina for her overwhelming victory in the 11th national election. Awami League had promised to address the wage discrimination of the primary teachers in its party's manifesto ahead of the national election. The teachers said this while addressing at a press conference held at Jatiya Press Club in the capital yesterday.
Mohammad Abul Kasem, General Secretary of the association, said the Awami League government nationalised a total of 26,193 non-government primary schools in 2013.
"The prime minister is positive for development of country's primary education. So we are optimistic that the government will implement 2010 national education policy fully very soon," he also said.
Abul Kasem further said the government in its manifesto included that all demands of assistant teachers and headmasters will be implemented.
While speaking as the chief guest, Shyamal Kanti Ghosh, former director general of the Directorate of Primary Education, urged teachers to provide their pupils with quality education.
"You are the key who will build the nation. So, you have to teach them properly as they can show excellent perform in job sectors."
"There is no corruption in teacher recruitment system now. I received many phone calls even from MPs, but avoided those calls to arrange fair recruitment," he also said.
As special guest, Relief and Social Welfare Secretary of Awami League Sujit Ray Nandi, said the primary teachers have been playing vital role to build a talented nation.
Mohammad Atiqur Rahman Atiq, president of the association, presided over the function while adviser Jahanara Khanom gave welcome speech.
