Obaidul says AL has no objection to poll delay
Awami League has no objection to the Election Commission postponing the upcoming general election, said Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader.

The general secretary made the remarks in response to a question from the media during the sale of Awami League’s nomination forms at the party president’s offices in Dhanmondi on Sunday, said bdnews24.com.

The statement came before the Oikya Front announced it would participate in the election and demanded that it be deferred by a month.

“It is up to the Election Commission whether it will defer the schedule or not. All matters related to the schedule fall under the jurisdiction of the commission,” he said.

“We appreciated the EC’s schedule. We would not object if the commission changed its decision.”

But the decision must be made for a logical reason and has to be done after holding proper discussions with all the parties who intend to run in the election, he said.

The EC had announced the schedule for the 11th parliamentary election last week and fixed Dec 23 as the election day.

The EC faces a constitutional binding to hold the election by Jan 28.
