AL to begin mass-contact Monday ahead of JS polls
As part of its programme to mobilise public support, the Awami League is going to begin a weeklong mass-contact campaign tomorrow (Monday) in the city ahead of the next parliamentary election.
“We will carry out a mass-contact programme in the capital city from tomorrow,” Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader told this at a press conference after a meeting of the party secretariat at the AL president’s Dhanmondi political office in Dhaka, BSS reports.
He said party joint general secretaries will lead the weeklong programme divided into four groups in 12 wards of the city every day.
Quader, also Road Transport and bridges Minister, said AL Joint General Secretaries Mahbub-ul-Alam Hanif, Dr Dipu Moni, Advocate Jahangir Kabir Nanak and Abdur Rahman will lead the campaign in Wari, Uttara, Mohammadpur and Paltan areas respectively.
Asked about the BNP’s rally at Suhrawardy Udyan, the minister said the show in the today’s BNP rally seemed that people were not with the party.
Because of its negative politics, BNP has lost public support, he added.
About the BNP’s demand regarding the general election, the AL general secretary said the polls will be held as per the country’s Constitution.
The election will be held under the ruling party government likewise other parliamentary democratic countries, he added.
The minister said the government will extend necessary cooperation to the Election Commission to hold the election.
AL Joint General Secretaries Abdur Rahman, Dr Dipu Moni and Advocate Jahangir Kabir Nanak, Organizing Secretaries Ahmed Hossain, AFM Bahauddin Nasim and BM Mozzamel Haque, Publicity and Publications Secretary Dr Hasan Mahmud, Information and Research Secretary Advocate Afjal Hossain, Forest and Environment Affairs Secretary Delwar Hossain and Central Working Committee members SM Kamal Hossain and Marufa Akhter Poppy, among others, were present.
