'Muhuri' beat up defendant on court premises
A man and his wife came under attack by a lawyer's assistant (muhuri) on Dhaka CMM Court premises on Sunday as he came to see his uncle, an accused in a criminal case, reports a Bangla online portal .
Victim Belal Hossain accused that 'muhuri' Masud also snatched away Tk 60,000 in cash, a mobile phone set and a gold chain from them.
Belal said, police arrested his maternal uncle Monwar Ali from Rayerbagh area in city's Jatrabari on Saturday night.
Earlier, Belal, his wife Wahida Begum and Monwar's wife Nasima Begum went to the court at 12 noon today to him.
At that time, Masud alongwith his associates beat up Belal and his wife.
Masud also identified himself as a member of the executive committee of Dhaka Metropolitan Bar Association.
Even, some police members failed to refrain Masud from beating.
Later, assitional police rushed in and took control of the situation.
Masud, at that time, showed police his ID card and identified himself a Dhaka Bar member.
Meanwhile, Masud muhuri told reporters that the defandent assaulted him failing to get bail.
Kotwali Police SI Lal Mia, also a witness of the incident, said legal action will be taken against the accused.
Dhaka Bar Association's general secretary Asaduzzaman Khan Rochi questioned, "How can a 'muhuri' be a member of the association's executive committee as he is not a lawyer. We'll take action against him," he added.
