Major Sinha murder case: Probe body to carry public hearing
The inquiry committee formed by the house Ministry to investigate Major (Retd) Sinha Mohammad Rashed Khan murder in police firing at Baharchhara Police Checkpost under Teknaf upazila in Cox's Bazar district will hold a public hearing for the "sake of fair probe."

A public notice was issued in this regard on Wednesday evening.

The notice reads that the general public hearing will be held at 10:00am on Sunday (August 16). Eyewitnesses have already been requested to appear at the mass hearing to be held at Teknaf's Shamlapur Rohingya Camp's camp in-charge office with time.

The general public notice signed by Cox's Bazar additional district magistrate and person in the inquiry committee Mohammad Shahjahan Ali was published on Wednesday.

It can be mentioned that on July 31 night, Major Sinha Mohammad Rashed Khan was killed in police firing at a checkpost at Shamlapur area under Baharchhara union along the Cox's Bazar-Teknaf Marine Drive. Later, Major Sinha's sister filed a case where she made Baharchhara Investigation Centre's Inspector Liakat Ali as prime accused and Teknaf Police Station OC as the accused number 2. Besides, seven more policemen were made accused in the event.

Other accused in the much-talked about case are SI Nanda Dulal Rakshit, constables Safanur Karim, Kamal Hossain, Abdullah Al Mamun, ASI Liton Mia and constable Mohammad Mostofa.

The Home Ministry formed a four-member inquiry committee on August 2 with additional divisional commissioner (Development) of Chattogram Mohammad Mizanur Rahman as convener. The committee will identify the reasons and sources behind the murder, and offer their recommendations to avoid such incidents in future.

Although committee was supposed to submit its report within seven working days, the house Ministry extends its time-limit by seven more days to submit report.
