Life-term convicted rapist marries rape victim at jail gate

Wedding party between a life-term convict to get rape and a rape victim occurred by the Rajshahi Central Jail gate on Saturday. 

Their nine-year-old son was present at the wedding. The convict will probably get bail through the marriage.

Subrata Kumar Bala, senior jail super of Rajshahi Central Jail, said the matrimony was arranged at the directive of the courtroom. Family members of the bride were asked to stay present at 11:00am at the jail gate. Following the arrival of 14 friends of the bride and bridegroom, these were taken to the jail super's place. Afterward, the bridegroom proceeded to go there putting on a light punjabi. His son was asked to stand on the contrary side of his dad. The smiling detained dad signed in the registrar. In those days, the priest recited the rites in Sanskrit and the formalities of the matrimony concluded through the exchange of garlands 3 x by the bride and groom.

The senior jail super of Rajshahi Central Jail gifted a Qatan saree to the bride.

The bridegroom who was simply sentenced for life-term for rape of the girl, said he had experienced jail for much time eight years. "I feel happy after the marriage," he said.

The bridegroom said she also felt happy following the marriage.

Senior Jail Super Subrata Kumar Bala said he previously no information about the marriage of the convicts at jail gate in the history of Bangladesh. He imagined it was the first marriage at the jail gate. The matrimony was executed through the religious rites. Friends and employees were likewise offered sweets. 

He said a written report on successful completion of the marriage would be sent to the court immediately.

It had been learnt from the circumstance statement that the rape victim woman was the relative of the convict. Both of these hailed from Godagari upazila in Rajshahi district. That they had a romance. When the girl became pregnant in 2011, her lover declined to marry her. The lady was only 14 years' old in those days. On October 25 of this year, the lady filed a rape circumstance with Godagari Law enforcement Station against her lover.

On January 29, 2012, the ladies and Kid Repression Prevention Tribunal of Rajshahi framed expenses against the accused. On June 12 of this calendar year, the tribunal awarded the accused life-term jail and fined Tk 50,000. Since then the convict has been remaining in jail. After, he filed for bail to the Great Court.

During the hearing in bail prayer by a higher Court bench in October 22 go on, the lawyers representing both convict and complainant told the court that they had agreed to marry one another.

After the hearing, the High Court bench of Justice M Enayetur Rahim and Justice M Mostafizur Rahman ordered to arrange their relationship at the jail gate. The jail super concerned was as well asked to post a written survey within thirty days in this respect. The bench provided the verdict at the consent of both sides.

The formalities of the marriage took place at the Rajshahi Central Jail gate on Saturday at the directive of the Great Court bench.
