Kamal irked by delays on NBR’s automation
Financing Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal yesterday expressed his disappointment to the taxmen for failing woefully to keep carefully the promise he made to the primary minister to automate the taxes collection system.
"I promised the prime minister and the persons that the tax system will be automated soon but there is absolutely no progress in the process," he said at a program organised by the NBR to honour leading taxpayers.
Kamal said that in spite of being the financing minister, he could not automate the National Plank of Revenue due to the delays the effect of a section of officials of the tax administrator, which is also the implementing organization of the automation program. He also expressed anger at the function that the NBR organises yearly at its workplace in Dhaka to disburse taxes cards among the best tax payers.
"I am saying again that the persons of the country want to pay taxes but we are failing to collect it. Nowadays, we must collect the tax funds from the people," Kamal added.
The country's tax-GDP ratio has remained the same at 10 per cent for some years, he said, adding that if tax collection isn't improved, the imagine learning to be a developed country will stay a dream only.
He urged the NBR officials to stop being lazy and do something to automate the tax collection system without even more delay.
