Top taxpayers honoured
It had been a day of acknowledgement for taxes compliance and the delight of being honoured. This recognition came from the National Board of Revenue (NBR).
In a bid to encourage compliance and bring more people beneath the tax net in a country where avoidance and evasion are rampant, the NBR yesterday honoured the best taxpayers with tax cards and crests for abiding the rules.
Including the 141 optimum taxpayers at the countrywide level, the NBR honoured a complete of 665 specific taxpayers throughout the country. Of these, 524 had been awarded for turning out to be the best and longest time taxpayers for fiscal 2019-20.
"We are really delighted. Us has been paying taxes for quite some time and turning out to be honoured. Seven of us members have grown to be top taxpayers in a variety of categories this year," explained Rubaiyat Farzana Hussain after staying offered a tax card and crest at a ceremony at the NBR headquarters to be the best taxpayer in the salaried specific category.
Hussain is general supervisor of Medication International. Along with her sister, Hosne Ara Hussain, also general supervisor of Drug International, were recognised by the NBR at the function where Status Minister for People Administration Farhad Hossain was present.
Finance Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal joined the function virtually to greet the winners for fiscal 2019-20. NBR Chairman Abu Hena Md Rahmatul Muneem chaired the function.
"This acknowledgement will inspire us to experience an obligation that people are a real partner of the country's production," explained SK Bashir Uddin, managing director of Akij Group, among the most significant business houses, after acquiring a card on behalf of Sheikh Akij Uddin Small.
Akij is among the highest taxpayers out of your 141 taxpayers for last fiscal. It got recognition in others category.
In addition to the other folks category, the NBR honoured a total of 76 individuals and 53 companies as the largest and compliant taxpayers out of around 25 lakh regular taxpayers who document gross annual income tax returns.
Shehzad Munim, managing director of Uk American Tobacco Bangladesh, said businesses got a whole lot of support during the difficult days of pandemic after obtaining the award.
Yasir Azman, leader of Grameenphone, said they could resolve several disputes in 2020.
Syed Abul Hossain, ex - communications minister, who started to be one of the leading taxpayers among businessmen, explained the recognition will encourage taxpayers to pay even more taxes.
At the function, the tax authority as well honoured Md Kaus Mia, who has been topping the positioning of highest taxpayers for ten years. It awarded Laila Hussain, another highest taxpayer in the women's category.
Among companies, the NBR honoured Unilever Bangladesh and Standard Chartered Bangladesh.
Field offices of taxes honoured all of those other highest taxpayers within their respective offices yesterday.
