Farmers harvest 44pc paddy in haor region: Agri Minister
Agriculture Minister Abdur Razzaque on Saturday said farmers in haor region have already harvested 44 per cent paddy from the field amid cornavirus lockdown.
The minister said this in a video message from his residence and hoped that farmers should be able to complete harvest with time if heavy rainfall or early flood don't occur.
He also thanked political and social organisations, voluntary groups, students-teachers of schools and colleges, Chhatra League for helping farmers in harvesting paddy.
Razzaque extended because of local administrations, public representative, police, health division, and district, upazila and union level agriculture departments in this regard.
"Haor farmers managed to harvest 44 percent of the paddy because of various steps taken by the Ministry of Agriculture," he said.
Boro harvesting has begun in several areas of the country, but serious labour crisis was caused because of restriction on movements over coronavirus outbreak.
It can be mentioned that the country's total Boro paddy production target this season is 2.04 lakh metric tons. Some 20 % of it will result from the haor region.
