EC satisfied over peaceful polls
Election Commission Secretary Helal Uddin Ahmed expressed satisfaction over the 4th phase of the 5th upazila parishad election as he termed it fairly peaceful and neutral.
The 4th phase of the 5th upazila parishad elections to 107 upazilas were held on Sunday (March 31).
EC Secretary came up with the statement regarding the polls before media at the Media Centre of Nirbachan Bhaban in Dhaka on Sunday (March 31).
EC Secretary said, “Voting at all centers in Titas upazila of Cumilla district was suspended ‘following allegations of gross irregularities.’ Apart from that, voting to 12 centers was also suspended.”
Helal Uddin Ahmed said seven polling officials involved in irregularity will be punished in different terms after detaining them.
Helal Uddin said, “We had massive preparation for the elections. We deployed almost 120 platoons of Border Guards Bangladesh (BGB) in almost 49 upazilas. Around three hundred magistrates were deployed.”
This time, UP polls is being held in five phases at 492 upazilas.
The 1st phase of the 5th UP polls to 78 upazilas was held on March 10.
And, 2nd phase of the 5th UP elections to 116 upazilas under 15 districts held March 18.
The 3rd phase of the 5th upazila parishad elections to 117 upazilas under 25 districts were held on March 24.
