Dilal, Rashid elected ERF president, GS
Saif Islam Dilal, planning editor of Ekushey TV, was re-elected president of Economic Reporters' Forum (ERF) for two years in an election held on Friday.
SM Rashidul Islam, senior reporter of BSS, was elected general secretary of the forum, reports UNB.
Dilal won against his lone contestant Kawser Rahman, City Editor of The Daily Janakantha, bagging 97 votes. Kawser got 72 votes.
Rashidul Islam got 89 votes while his two contestants -- Rezvi Newaz and Mohammed Syful Islam -- bagged 46 votes and 33 votes respectively.
Syed Shahnewaz Karim was elected vice-president bagging highest 103 votes while Bijwajit Dutta got 65 votes.
Md Golam Moinul Ahsan was elected assistant general secretary while Mohammed Shahjahan Siraj finance secretary unopposed.
Four executive members -- Doulot Akter Mala, Sunity Kumar Biswas, Salah Uddin Bablu and Ashraful Islam -- were also elected unopposed earlier.
Former Jatiya Press Club president Shawkat Mahmud acted as the chairman of the election commission while former president of Bangladesh Federation Union of Journalists (BFUJ) Monjurul Ahsan Bulbul and JPC general secretary Farida Yasmin were its members.
A total of 170 voters out of 186 cast their votes in the election held from 3pm to 6pm.
Earlier, ERF's biennial general meeting was held with outgoing president Saif Islam Dilal in the chair.
