Construction of first super specialized hospital begins
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Thursday (September 13) laid the foundation stone of a super specialized hospital at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) in Dhaka.

The 11-storey hospital, said to be the first of its kind in Bangladesh, will be housed on the north side of BSMMU cabin block.

On Thursday, Sheikh Hasina also opened the BSMMU convention center, diagnostic & oncology building and a doctors’ dormitory.

The construction project of the hospital of Tk1,366 crore was initiated on February 2, 2016, vowing specialized treatment for the commoners.

South Korean government will lend Tk 1,047 crore in flexible terms, in this project.

The 1000-bed hospital will be equipped with the capability of treating some 5,000-8,000 patients at the outdoor department each day.

Besides, for the first time, ‘centre-based’ medical services will be provided here.

Experts are saying the ‘patient-friendly green hospital’ will open a new horizon in Bangladesh’s medical sector.

However, Health Minister Mohammad Nasim, Parliamentary Standing Committee Health Affairs President Sheikh Fazlul Karim Selim, among others, were present at the function presided over by BSMMU Vice Chancellor Prof Kanak Kanti Barua.
