Shahidul’s crime tantamount to treason: AG
Attorney General Mahbubey Alam said the crime committed by Photographer Shahidul Alam is tantamount to treason.

AG Mahbubey Alam made the remark to reporters after petition filed with the Appellate Division challenging High Court order to send Shahidul Alam, who was remanded in an ICT case, to Bangabandhu Sehikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) for treatment on Wednesday (August 8).

Mahbubey Alam said, “He was arrested according to the law and his crime is tantamount to sedition. He gave an interview to a foreign TV channel with false and provocative speeches. So, it is normal that police will interrogate such a person.”

He also said, “Though, he is completely healthy, petition was filed to take him to the hospital in order to exempt him from interrogation.”

In reply to a question, Attorney General said, “He is working on behalf of a specific group who don’t want to see this government in power and join polls- that is what I have told the court.”

Shahidul was picked up from his Dhanmondi residence on Sunday night (August 5).

Police filed the case against him for spreading propaganda and false information on Facebook and electronic media against the government.

Shahidul’s wife Rehnuma said her husband gave an interview to international media about on-going students’ movement. Besides, he came live on Facebook about the issue several.
