Chattogram hill slides claim 4 lives
Separate incidents of hill slides triggered by incessant rainfall for last few days claimed lives of four people, including three of a family, in Chattogram early Sunday.
According to the fire service and police sources, three members of a family died as hill collapsed on their hill-foot home at Firoz Shah Colony under Akbar Shah Thana in the port city around 2am.
Besides, another person was killed in a landslide in Rahman Nagar area under Panchlaish thana at around 1am.
Fire Service sources said that two makeshift houses at the Firoz Shah Colony were buried under the mud and debris.
The victims were identified as Noorjahan, 45, her daughter Fazrunessa, 2, and mother Bibi Zohra, 65.
Bibi Zohra has come to visit her daughter from Laxmipur district.
Being informed, two firefighting units rushed to the spot and recovered the bodies.
Five people, including four siblings, died and two others were injured in landslides in Cox’s Bazar town and Ramu Upazila in July last.
