Call for preserving ‘Bhaoyaiya’ songs
Speakers at a function in Rangpur stressed preserving, flourishing and nurturing the century-old ‘Bhaoyaiya’ songs to entertain the common people.

They also made a call for preserving the folksongs at the launching function of a two-day ‘Bhaoyaiya Utsab- 2019’ held on the Town Hall premises in Rangpur city on Friday night, reports BSS.

Cultural organisation ‘Gidaler Akhra’ is organising the ‘Bhaoyaiya Utsab’ where popular ‘Bhaoyaiya’ artistes and folksong dancers of Rangpur region are rendering ‘Bhaoyaiya’ songs, dances and ‘Geeti Nattya’ to entertain the common people.

Rangpur Sadar Upazila Parishad Chairman Nasima Zaman Boby formally inaugurated the two-day festival as the guest of honour.

Noted ‘Bhaoyaiya’ researcher and founder of ‘Gidaler Akhra’ Mohammad Siraj Uddin presided over the inaugural function participated by noted cultural personalities, civil society members and elite of the city.

Regional director of Rangpur Kendra of Bangladesh Betar Dr Harun Ar Rashid, former general secretary of District Shilpokola Academy Tauhidur Rahman Tutul, cultural personalities Moksudar Rahman and KM Ali Samrat addressed as invited guests.

The speakers said the ‘Bhaoyaiya’ folksongs have huge influence and contribution to developing the civilisation, culture and life style on the Brahmaputra basin in the region comprising of greater Rangpur, Assam, West Bengal and Behar.

They put emphasis on proper preservation and nurturing of ‘Bhaoyaiya’ songs with its heart-throbbing musical tune that still plays a vital role in reviving past glory and tradition of our rich cultural heritage.
