BNP chief gets 6-month bail in Dhaka case
The High Court on Tuesday granted BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia six-month bail in a defamation case filed over her 'derogatory remarks' about freedom fighters and martyred intellectuals.

The two-members HC bench of Justice Muhammad Abdul Hafiz and Justice Kashefa Hussain passed the order after hearing.

The petition was filed on Monday after a Dhaka Court denied bail in the case on August 7.

Advocate AJ Mohammad Ali stood for Khaleda while Deputy Attorney General Kamrul Ahsan Khan Aslam represent the state.

On January 5, 2016, AB Siddiqui, president of Jananetri Parishad, filed the case with Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Court (CMM) in Dhaka, reports UNB.

As per prosecution, Khaleda Zia questioned the actual number of Liberation War martyrs at a discussion held in Dhaka on December 21, 2015. Besides, she made objectionable remarks about Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
