Be united to save country, BNP urges countrymen
BNP on Friday night called upon the countrymen to free the country from the ‘grasp of the current monstrous’ government.

"The current regime is a fascist and tyrannical one. I call upon all to get united forgetting all conflicts and misunderstanding to save the country," BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir told a reception accorded to Hindu community members.

Hindu-Buddhist-Christian Kalyan Front arranged the programme at the BNP chief's Gulshan office on the occasion of Janmashtami, marking the birth of Lord Krishna, to be celebrated in the country on Sunday, UNB reports.

BNP senior leaders, including Fakhrul, and some Hindu community leaders addressed the programme.

Fakhrul alleged that the government has kept their chairperson Khaleda Zia in jail unfairly. "Our leader (Khaleda) will be freed and democracy will be restored if we can defeat the current fascist regime."

He also urged all to be imbued with the spirit of Lord Krishna to fight against untruth and injustice.

BNP standing committee members Rafiqul Islam Miah, Mirza Abbas, Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury, chairperson's advisers Prof Sukomal Barua and party central leaders Albert P Costa, Dipen Dewan, Sushil Barua and Tapan Majumder, among others were present at the programme.
