Barapukiria coal extraction resumes
Coal extraction from Barapukuria coal mine in Parbatipur upazila of Dinajpur resumed after three months of suspension.

Md Fazlur Rahman, managing director of Barapukuria Coal Mining Company Limited, confirmed the matter to Banglanews on Saturday (September 8).

MD Fazlur Rahman said experimental extraction of coal from the mine’s coal phage-1314 has begun around 9:30pm Friday (September 7).

Around 529.50 tonnes of coal has been hauled out till 6:00am Saturday. Some 12-15 hundreds tonnes will be extracted in the next two days. However, 2200 tonnes coal will be hauled out daily from September 10, he said.

Earlier on June 16, coal extraction process was closed after reserves of coal phase- 1210 ended. Later on July 22, Barapukuria coal power plant was shut down due to shortage of coal that left 8 northern districts in immense low-voltage and load shedding problems.
