Bangabandhu's killer Majed seeks presidential clemency
Abdul Majed, among the six absconding death-row convicts in the Bangabandhu killing case, has sought presidential clemency.

Additional Inspector General (IG) of Prisons Col Abrar Hossain confirmed the matter to Banglanews on Wednesday (April 8).

He said, "Majed confessed to all crimes and sought clemency of the President. We've sent his application to the ministry concerned.”

Majed was read aloud the death warrant after it had reached the prison, Abrar Hossain added.

Earlier in the day, a Dhaka court issued a death warrant against him on Wednesday (April 8).

A specialised police unit overnight arrested the suspended captain Abdul Majed, who had been on the run for long 23 years, from Mirpur in the capital early Tuesday.

The Supreme Court on November 19, 2009, upheld the death sentences of Abdul Majed and 11 other self-confessed killers of Bangabandhu. Of these, five were executed on January 27, 2010.

They were Syed Farooq Rahman, Sultan Shahriar Rashid Khan, Bazlul Huda, AKM Mohiuddin Ahmed, and Mohiuddin Ahmed. Meanwhile, another killer, Aziz Pasha, died in Zimbabwe in 2001.
