Arifin Shuvo to play the central character?
Apu, the central character in Satyajit Ray's 'Apu Trilogy', will return to the big screen six decades after the last film was released. 'Apur Sansar', the last film in the trilogy, hit the theaters in 1959 which also marked the debut of Soumitra Chatterjee in the title role.

Subhrajit Mitra is now making 'Avijatrik-The Wanderlust of Apu', based entirely on the concluding part of 'Aparajito' by Bibhutibhushan Bandyop-adhyay. The story will take off from where 'Apur Sansar' ended.

The details of the cast is still to be announced but we hear Bangladeshi actor Arifin Shuvo, who is waiting for the release of 'Ahaa Re' this month, is set to play the central character of Apu. Subhrajit Mitra is currently busy with the recce for his film.

'Abhijatrik' is presented by renowned Bollywood producer Madhur Bhandarkar and produced by Gourongo Films. The Apu Trilogy - 'Pather Panchali' (1955), 'Aparajito' (1956) and 'Apur Sansar' (1959) - is widely regarded as Satyajit Ray's cult classic which started the neo-realist movement in Indian cinema.

The three films went on to win many national and international awards, including three National Film Awards and seven awards from the Cannes, Berlin and Venice Film Festivals. The three films comprise a "coming of age" narrative in the vein of a bildungsroman, a literary genre that focuses on the psychological and moral growth of the protagonist from youth to adulthood.

The film described the childhood, education and early maturity of a young Bengali named Apu (Apurba Kumar Roy) in the early part of the 20th century.
