AL’s Moslem Uddin wins Chattogram-8 by-polls
Ruling Awami League's Moslem Uddin Ahmed has won the by-election to the Chattogram-8 parliamentary seat beating BNP's Abu Sufiyan.
Moslem secured 87,246 votes while Sufiyan got 17,935 votes.

Returning Officer Hasanuzzaman declared the results at Chattogram’s Gymnasium on Monday night.

Comprised of Boalkhali upazila, parts of Chattogram city's Chandgaon and Bayezid areas, the constituency has 474,485 voters. Only 23 per cent votes were cast in the election held through electronic voting machine (EVM).

Earlier around 1:00pm, BNP candidate Abu Sufian demanded suspension of the polls alleging various irregularities, including polling centre capture by ruling Awami League activists.

“My polling agents in almost all the centres out of 170 have been driven out. Voters are barred to enter the centers,” he alleged at a press conference at BNP office at the city’s Nasiman Bhaban.

Returning Officer Hasanuzzaman, however, denied the allegations and said voting was conducted in a peaceful, participatory and spontaneous manner.

The constituency fell vacant after the death of JSD leader Moinuddin Khan Badal.
