Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has inaugurated the distribution of homes among 66,189 landless and homeless families in Ashrayan-2 Task, the world’s major ever scheme for providing shelter to homeless persons.

The Primer inaugurated the distribution ceremony nearly on Saturday morning from her official Ganabhaban residence.

She distributed pucca houses beneath the job as a present from her government in Mujib Borsho, marking the birth centenary of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, the Father of the Nation.

UNB adds: In addition to the pucca houses, the indegent households got ownership papers of two decimal area parcels from the Primary Minister, who also launched the project almost from her official home Ganobhaban. All the houses have been produced on Khas land.

The federal government has constructed 66,189 homes at a total cost of Tk 1,168 crore. Each device has two bedrooms, a home, a toilet and a veranda, constructed at a price of Tk 1.75 lakh.  

Another 100,000 properties will be distributed among the indegent next month.

Besides the Ashrayan job, the PMO will rehabilitate 3,715 homeless family members in 743 barracks in 44 villages across 36 upazilas of 21 districts through the Mujib Borsho.

The PMO prepared a set of 885,622 families in 2020, which 293,361 are landless and homeless, while 592,261 have just 1-10 decimal terrain parcels but no housing facility.

The Ashrayan project rehabilitated some 320,058 landless and homeless families between 1997 and December 2020.

On the other hand, the Ashran-2 project (July 2010-June 2022) aims to rehabilitate 250,000 even more landless, homeless and displaced families, at a price Tk 4,840.28 crore. It has up to now rehabilitated 192,277 poor families across the country.

A complete of 48,500 landless and homeless families have already been rehabilitated in barracks while 143,777 having own area (1-10 decimals but unable to construct homes) in semi-barracks, corrugated iron-sheet barracks and exclusively designed houses.

The federal government is arranging accommodation for the homeless plus the landless families under Ashrayan-2 project, a casing project run by the PMO. The federal government provides enlisted 293,361 homeless and in addition landless families along with 592,261 homeless households throughout the country.
