6 held for violating woman after confining her husband
Police have arrested six people for allegedly violating a woman after confining her husband in Ashulia of Savar, on the outskirts of Dhaka.
The arrested people are Zahidul Islam, 22, Azad Hossain, 24, Rana Sarker, 28 of Narsinghapur area, Robiul Sheikh, 20, Rubel, 22 of Konapara, and Sagor Hossain, 24 of Ghoshbag area in Ashulia.
Ashulia Police Station sub-inspector (SI) Fazikul Islam confirmed the matter.
The SI said the victim's husband along with her came to a friend's home in Narsinghapur Sona Mia Market area on Sunday evening. Then, seven young men confined the victim and her husband in separate rooms of the house of one Nasir in the area. Later, they gang raped the woman, and demanded Tk 20,000 as ransom over phone to the victim's family.
The victim's family informed the Ashuli Police Station in written regarding ransom.
Police, later, detained Robiul and Rubel among the accused in the market area when they went there to take ransom.
On information provided by them, police conducted drive at the office of Taher Mridha, member of 6 no. Ward under Yeapur Union parishad,early Tuesday and nabbed four more accused.
However, a rape case was lodged with Ashulia Police Station accusing eight in this connection.
According to local people, the accused are the followers of , member of Union Parishad.
Taher Mridha is involved with various misdeeds, including rape, theft, willfulness and providing illegal gas line in the area, added locals.
