22 killed in Mali minibus accident
Twenty-two people were killed and 21 were wounded on southern Mali in Tuesday whenever a minibus collided with a dump vehicle, the transportation ministry said.

The accident occurred around 9 am on a nationwide highway linking the city of Kangaba nearby the border with Guinea to Bancoumana farther north in the West African country.

The ministry said in a statement that 19 persons were killed at the site of the crash, according to a provisional tally, and that seven of the wounded passengers were badly injured.

The injured were taken up to a medical center in the administrative centre Bamako.

“The reason why behind the accident are excessive velocity and non-respect of highway rules,” the ministry said.

Road accidents certainly are a frequent occurrence in Mali, where in fact the poor condition of the motorways is a way to obtain social tension.

Twenty persons were killed on May 20 after a good minibus and lorry collided found in the south of the country.

Travelling by road is still the principal means of transport for folks and merchandise in the landlocked Sahel nation of some 20 million people.
