Writ seeks ban on selling antibiotics without prescription
A writ petition has been filed with the High Court seeking its directives on the authorities concerned to ban selling of antibiotics without prescription and medical supervision.
Supreme Court lawyer Sayedul Haque Suman filed the petition on Wednesday.
The Health Secretary, the Directorate General of Health Services, the Public Administration Secretary and other concerned have been made respondents in the writ.
The HC bench of Justice Sheikh Hasan Arif and Justice Rajik-Al Jalil is likely to hear the petition on Thursday.
The lawyer in his petition, cited a research report of World Health Organization (WHO) that says nearly seven million people across the world die due to antibiotic-resistant bacteria in the body. The number will rise to one crore by 2050, it added.
