Verdict on war crimes suspects Liakat, Aminul any day
The International Crimes Tribunal will deliver its verdict any day against former Habiganj Awami League leader Liakat Ali and Aminul Islam from Kishoreganj for allegedly committing crimes during the Liberation War in 1971.
Both Liakat Ali, former president of Lakhai upazila unit AL of Habiganj, and Aminul Islam alias Rajab Ali,from Ashtogram upazila of Kishoreganj are at large.
The three-member ICT, led by Justice Shahinur Islam, on Thursday kept the verdict CAV.
Prosecutor Rana Dasgupta and Rezia Sultana stood for the prosecution while Gazi MH Tamim presented the fugitive accused during the arguments.
In May 2016,the prosecution filed seven specific charges against the duo over crimes committed during the Liberation War in 1971.
Later on May 18, 2016, the tribunal issued arrest warrant against them. But, they could not be arrested
The tribunal decided to continue the trial in their absence.
Earlier on December 27, 2015, investigation agency of the tribunal submitted the probe report.
The report said, during the Liberation War in 2971, they both allegedly committed crimes against humanity in Lakhai upazila of Habiganj, Nasirnagar of Brahmanbaria, and Ashtogram of Kishoreganj.
