United Hospital chairman, 5 others sued for death of five patients in fire
Relative of one of the five patients who burnt alive at the isolation unit of United Hospital at Gulshan in Dhaka filed a case against the hospital authorities on Wednesday night for showing utter negligence to and disrespect for human lives.

Ronald Nicky Gomez, son-in-law of Veron Anthony Paul, among the five victims, filed the case with Gulshan Police Station at about 9:00pm on Wednesday against six folks like the United Hospital chairman, said Gulshan Police Station's officer-in-charge (OC) Md Kamruzzaman.

The case was filed against six persons--United Hospital's CEO, MD, doctors and nurses--mentioning their names and designations specifically.

In his case, Ronald Nicky Gomez mentioned that his mother-in-law was deliberately kept at the isolation ward though she tested coronavirus negative twice. Other coronavirus negative patients were also kept there at the order of the doctors and administrator. "So, the United Hospital authorities were fully responsible for the death of the five patients at the isolation ward," he mentioned.

Ronald Nicky Gomez mentioned that it was delayed to file the case as all the members of his family were mentally devastated following the death of his mother-in-law.

He described whatever he had witnessed following admission of his mother-in-law at the United Hospital.

Ronald also mentioned how a little fire broke out in the airconditioner at the isolation unit engulfed the entire ward and claimed the lives of five patients due to the negligence of the persons concerned.

It can be recalled that five patients burnt alive at the isolation ward of United Hospital on May 27 last. These were Mohammad Mahbub, 50, Monir Hossain, 75, Veron Anthony Paul, 74, Khodeza Begum, 70, and Riaz Ul Alam, 50.

The United Hospital authorities tactfully filed an unnatural death (UD) case regarding the the death of five patients at night on May 27.
