Top HuJi leader Atiqullah, 2 others remanded
Three members of the banned militant outfit Harkatul Jihad Bangladesh, including its top leader and bomb expert Atiqullah, have been placed on a four-day remand each.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Ashek Imam passed the order on Thursday.

Those who were remanded are M Atiqullah alias Asadullah alias Zulfiqar,49, Md Borhan Uddin Rabbani,42, and Mohammad Nazim Uddin alias Shamim,43.

Earlier, police produced the three HuJi leaders before the court seeking 10 days' remand to interrogate them. 

Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime (CTTC) Unit in a drive on Wednesday afternoon arrested them from Boro Masjid area at Nikunja-2 under Khilkhet Police Station.

According to the CTTC, Atiqullah was the organizing secretary of the HuJi committee formed by Mufti Hannan in 1996. Later, he discharged duties in the Baitul Maal and International Relations Department of the organisation.

The militant leader had fought in Afghanistan war.

After staying abroad for a long time, he returned home in March this year and became active in collecting members to start the organization's activities again.

Atiqullah also visited several places to bring dynamism in the organization. He also started  raising fund for the organization from local and foreign sources.

He has contacts with militant groups in other countries, including Pakistan, Dubai and Saudi Arabia.

The CTTC also informed that Atiqullah is maintaining contact with the militant organisations of other countries including Pakistan, UAE and Saudi Arabia.

Besides, had several meetings with top Taliban leaders, including Osama bin Laden, Mullah Omar and Ayman al-Zawahiri during the Afghanistan War.

Of the two other arrested persons, M Nazim Uddin alias Shamim is  the secretary of HuJi's Dhaka Metropolitan South unit and M  Borhan Uddin Rabbani is a leader in Feni district.

They have been trying to reorganise their members capitalising the Kashmir problem and the Rohingya situation.

DC Masudur Rahman also said that a case has been filed against them with Khilkhet Police Station under the Anti-Terrorism Act.
