Tigers’ injury updates ahead of World Cup
The Tigers are in England’s Leicester as they gear up for the warm-up matches against Pakistan and India at Cardiff on May 26 and 28 respectively. There were a few injury concerns ahead of the warm-up games and then the World Cup which is slated to begin from May 30. Bangladesh head coach Steve provided updates on the injuries that the Bangladesh players are recuperating from.

All-rounder Shakib Al Hasan is back in the nets and have been batting quite fluently during the net sessions. The Test and T20 skipper had sat out the final of the tri-nation series against West Indies but Rhodes informed that Shakib quite possibly recuperated from the strain.

“No, he seems fine. He took part fully now in fielding and he’s been training and batting, he’s bowling there’s not a problem with that anyway. We’re just optimistic that it will settle down, it was just a little muscle spasm, which can happen. We’re optimistic that that’s gone now,” Rhodes told reporters yesterday.

Mahmudullah Riyad had not bowled competitively since the first Test against New Zealand in Hamilton. Test revealed he had a Grade 3 tear on his right shoulder and he did not bowl in Ireland. Yesterday Mahmudullah bowled a few deliveries in the nets but did not continue for too long. Rhodes confirmed that the team management just wanted him to roll his arm around a bit.

“I didn’t see him go today but we had a plan for him to gently roll his arm over before we put it under any serious strain. We’re hoping that he will take part in the World Cup at some stage as a bowler, but we don’t know when that might be. We’ll have some feedback as to how he’s gone today as soon as we get into the changing room.”

Soumya Sarkar has been in fantastic touch since his  Dhaka Premier League hundred and double ton in back-to-back games this season. In Ireland he was instrumental, hitting three consecutive 50s for the Tigers. The left-hander has not undertaken any net session and Rhodes said that Soumya has a medical thing but reaffirmed that it is nothing major.

“He’s just got a little medical thing, we just wanted to take him out of practice today, it’s nothing major. Don’t go digging, it’s a bit of a private matter. It’s nothing major, he will be fine. Sometimes you’re better off just resting a little bit. There’s no problem, I anticipate everything will settle down.”
