Thousands turn out for Vienna anti-lockdown protest
Thousands turned out on Saturday for the latest protest in Vienna against coronavirus limitations and several arrests were made for breaching public order regulations and Covid rules, police said.
Lots of the protesters did not wear masks or perhaps observe social distancing as they made their method through the center of the Austrian capital to a park where in fact the far-right Freedom Party (FPOe) had called a rally.Austria eased its best and newest lockdown last month and reopened institutions, shops and museums.
Nevertheless protesters voiced opposition to the restrictions even now in place, including the closure of restaurants and cafes plus the school of the test pupils must try to attend in-person lessons. Previous interior minister Herbert Kickl accused the federal government of "dance on the border of lunacy" in a speech to the masses. "It's all so weird and mad, no Hollywood director could make it up," Kickl said of the remaining constraints. Demonstrators chanted slogans and placed placards seeking the resignation of centre-best suited Chancellor Sebastian Kurz.
Isolated scuffles were reported between protestors and left-wing counter-demonstrators. Extreme-proper elements, including neo-Nazis, have been present at previous anti-lockdown protests. Such demonstrations have already been increasingly common lately as citizens chafe against the ongoing restrictions on regular life.
