Teleplays should be audience-oriented, says Nasim
Acclaimed TV actor Ahsan Habib Nasim, also the general secretary of Actors' Equity, said that making audience-oriented teleplays that they can relate to is a must to revive the industry's lost virtues.Nasim recently in an interview talked regarding the quality of teleplays, current position of the local small screen industry and more.

'Teleplays and drama serials illustrate the social customs, culture and can greatly influence the audience. However, majority of the programs aired these days do not portray contemporary issues. Therefore, viewers are not enjoying the ones that are shown now,' said Nasim.

'The teleplays and serials which are being produced after 2010 are gradually declining in quality. Due to the low standard programs aired on TV channels viewers are being drawn to web series and foreign Bangla dubbed programs,' he added.

Nasim blamed the owners of television channels for the current scenario and urged all to work together for the betterment of the industry.

'These days owners of TV channels rely on agencies for contents. The agencies often supply cheap low quality productions featuring mediocre artistes, which are being aired on the channels and as a result we are gradually losing viewers,' he said.

'Due to the monopoly by agencies, who make programs with the artistes and directors of their choice, and Bangla dubbed serials aired on the TV channels, many veteran and talented young artistes are not getting work opportunities. To save the industry artistes, producers and TV channel owners will have to work together,' he added.

Nasim thinks that the government should evaluate TRP, Television Rating Point, based on Data Information System to accurately examine audiences' interest in particular television shows.

'If TRP is properly evaluated, I believe a true picture regarding audiences' demand will emerge,' said Nasim. Nasim has acted in two Eid drama serials namely 'Heavy Weight Mizan' and 'Ekti Divorce Er Jonya' and a teleplay named 'Ashen Amra Mishti Mukh Kori'.

The seven-episode serial 'Heavy Weight Mizan' has been directed by Sagor Jahan. It stars Nasim, Zahid Hasan, Chanchal Chowdhury, Saju Khadem and others. It is being aired on RTV at 9:30 pm every day. The ten-episode serial 'Ekti Divorce Er Jonya' is being aired on ATN Bangla at 7:30 pm every day. It has been directed by Rezanur Rahman and stars Nasim, Sajal, Moushumi Hamid, Orsha, Pran Roy and others.

'Ashen Mishti Mukh Kori', directed by Rezanur Rahman, was aired on Eid day eve on Channel-I at 7:50 pm. 'I have really enjoyed acting in the Eid productions, which are based on atypical plots. I hope the audience will find those entertaining,' he ended.
