Syria responds to Israeli aggression: state media
Syrian air defence responded early on Thursday to “Israeli aggression” above Damascus, state media reported, adding that several soldiers were wounded on the attack.
Since the outbreak of the Syrian civil war in 2011, Israel has routinely carried out raids in Syria, usually targeting Iranian and Lebanese Hezbollah forces and government troops.
“At around 12:56 (2035 GMT), the Israeli enemy carried out an aggression from the route of Lebanon on most positions in the vicinity of Damascus,” Syrian state news organization SANA said, citing a army source.
“Our surroundings defences intercepted the aggression and shot down the majority of” the missiles, the news outlet said, adding that “4 soldiers were injured”.
The strikes also caused “some material damage”.
The source didn't provide details on the targets.
The Britain-based Syrian Observatory for People Rights said the air strikes had targeted “armed service positions” near Damascus.
Later on they added the strikes strike several positions near to the city and “destroyed an hands depot that belongs to the Iranians”.
Israel rarely confirms the strikes, but its army has said it hit about 50 targets found in the war-torn country this past year, without providing details.
