Suspected dacoit killed in 'shootout'
An alleged dacoit was killed in a gun-battle with the members of police at Tongibari area in Ashulia early Monday. 

The deceased was identified as Shamim, 45, a resident of Mohendrapur village.

Police detained Shamim from Kalampur area of Dhamrai on Sunday night. He confessed that he committed robbery at different parts of the country introducing him as detectives, Dharai Police Station OC Dipak Chandra Saha said.

According to his confessional statement, a team of law enforcers conducted a drive at Tongibari area to nab other members of the gang.

Sensing presence of the team, dacoit gang members opened fire on the team, forcing the policemen to fire back that triggered a gunfight.

Shamim was caught in the line of fire and died on the scene, the OC said.

An arms, bullet, machetes were recovered from the scene.

Ashulia Police Station OC Sheikh Rezaul Haque Dipu said the body was sent to Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College and Hospital morgue.
