Sumaiya Shimu to star in dual roles on 'Joytu'
Popular actress Sumaiya Shimu is going to play dual roles in upcoming TV drama 'Joytu.' She will star as a 60-year-old Bani Islam who is a Birangona (raped women of 1971 Liberation War), as well as in the role of her expatriate daughter Sylvia. The TV actress has already mesmerized her audiences with her excellent acting. It is hoped that her appearance will add an extra magnificence in the upcoming TV drama.
The drama made for Martyred Intellectuals Day will air on SATV at 9pm on Friday, December 14. Sylvia and Bani Islam, both, are the central characters of the drama. In the drama, Bani is a 60-year-old mentally unstable woman whose only daughter Sylvia lives in Canada with her husband.
Sylvia and her mother do not know the identity of Sylvia's father. She comes to visit her mother, who has lost all her memory, in Bangladesh every December. This December Bani's childhood friend Shayna, played by Shampa Reza, comes to visit them. Sylvia asks Shayna about the incidents of 1971.
Shayna starts to tell her about how her mother's marriage was set with her father on March 25, 1971. Pakistani military attacked on the night of their marriage and the story goes on. The drama was written by Jahir Karim and directed by Shimanto Kajol. 'Joytu' features Shampa Reza, Rawnak Hasan, and Ishrat Chaiti Ray in other major roles.
