Subhendu Maity's 'Bangla Gaaner Prampara'
Indian folk singer Subhendu Maity performed at Chhayanaut Auditorium in Dhanmondi on Saturday. The program titled 'Bangla Gaaner Prampara' was organized by Krishti Foundation. Krishti Foundation president Bulbul Mohalanbish and its general secretary Enayet Kabir spoke at the event.
Subhendu Maity performed only two songs at the show, which also featured screening of a documentary on the life and works of the singer. Sunhendu commenced the show rendering the folk song 'Swapno dekhar shahas koro'/ 'Swapno chara manush bachey naki'/ 'Swapna chara kemon kore gaan gaibey pakhi'.
After rendering the song, he said, 'Though I am a 75-year-old person, I have not stopped dreaming. I want to sing till my last breath.'
'Folk music reminds us of our roots and nature. Songs like Nao chariya dey, pal uriya dey gives us a glimpse into the rural life. Bengali culture has a rich history and tradition. We have to take the initiative to promote our culture across the globe,' he added.
Following his speech, he sang the song 'Jokhon eka thaki dishera boro osohay lagey' to the delight of the audience. The singer will perform in another music show scheduled to be held at Rajshahi Shilpakala Academy on Wednesday.
