Stay alert to BNP’s plot to foil polls
Awami League urged the Election Commission to remain alert as BNP-Jamaat and Oikyafront are out to foil the parliamentary election through making the commission questionable.
“BNP, Oikyafront and Jamaat are hatching conspiracies to thwart the election by making the Election Commission questionable,” AL Joint General Secretary Jahangir Kabir Nanak told journalists after a delegation of the party led by him met EC Secretary Helal Uddin Ahmed at the Agargaon’s Nirbachan Bhaban in Dhaka on Saturday.
He said the people of the country are now in election mood. But, the agitation of BNP leaders, who were denied nomination, before the party office is demonstrative of BNP hierarchy’s money-making from the party’s nomination seekers, he added, BSS reports.
“Those who failed to get share from the nomination business, are trying to make non-issue an issue. We urge the Election Commission to stay alert in this regard,” he said.
Replying to a question, Nanak said there is no room for exerting pressure on the Election Commission.
The AL leader said Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s government strengthened democracy in the country.
He said the election-time government would extend all-out cooperation to the EC in holding the polls in a free, fair and neutral manner.
