Singer Kavita Seth enchants Dhaka audience
Renowned Indian Sufi and playback singer Kavita Seth mesmerized the Dhaka audience at a solo show titled 'Sufi Night'; the program was organized by Indira Gandhi Cultural Centre and held at the Main Auditorium of Bangladesh National Museum on Monday.
Former cultural affairs minister Asaduzzaman Noor and Indira Gandhi Cultural Centre director Nipa Chowdhury spoke at the event. Kavita rendered Sufi songs addressing human relationship, nature, devotion and others, along with a few popular playback songs from Bollywood films.
She commenced the program rendering the Sufi song "Na tera khuda koi aur hai na mera" and later presented Sufi songs including "Badal raha hai jo shub shahare Mein", "Mose naina milaike", "Sab jag maya" and others.
She then rendered playback songs like "Mora piya mose bolat nahi", "Jeete hein chal", "Sanu ek pal chen na aye", "Mast kalandar" and others. She concluded the show by rendering the playback song "Gunja sa koi Iktara". 'This is my first time visit to Bangladesh. Before performing in Dhaka, I performed at Hatkhola in Chattogram at the International Sufi Festival on March 29. I am overwhelmed by the huge turnout at the show. The people of Bangladesh are really friendly and supportive,' said Kavita Seth.
She was born and brought up in Bareilly, Uttar Pradesh in India. She completed her post graduation in music and then completed her masters in Hindi literature from the University of Delhi. She bagged the Filmfare Awards for best playback singer in 2010 for lending her voice to the playback song "Gunja sa koi iktara". Kavita Seth is a well known playback singer in Indian cinema, as well as performer of ghazals and Sufi music. She has formed her own musical group named Karwan Group, a band of Sufi musicians.
