Shakib to endure fitness test
Ace Bangladesh all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan must go fitness check on January 10 prior to the upcoming residence series against West Indies, scheduled from January 20.
Bangladesh Cricket Board’s chief selector Minhajul Abedin confirmed the development adding that Shakib along with all others needed to complete the fitness test to create them qualified to receive the series.
A few of the cricketers have previously given the fitness test while the remaining others will give it (fitness check) on January 10.
“They are expected to provide COVID-19 test tomorrow (on Thursday) and later will enter the hotel on January 8,” Minhajul told The Daily Sun on Wednesday.
Meanwhile, BCB’s cricket operation chairman Akram Khan told reporters that hometown spin mentor Sohel Islam might join national team instead of Daniel Vettori found in the upcoming series against West Indies.
“Large amount of formalities are would have to be sorted for Vettori and so we decided that people would have Sohel in place of him found in the upcoming series. He (Vettori) will be with us when we go to New Zealand,” said Akram.
Akram added that it’s a major challenge to allow them to host a global series in bio-bubble.
“Certainly it is a major challenge as we are hosting a global series for the very first time (beneath bio-bubble). Now we are undertaking some test because they are anticipated to practice all together. We need to carry out the COVID-19 test. We will work on the bio-bubble just like the way we did earlier in the domestic tournament,” he said.
West Indies might arrive on January 10 to play 3 ODIs and two Exams against Tigers.
