Salahuddin off to India to help Shakib
Bangladesh Test and T20I captain Shakib Al Hasan, who is currently in India playing the Indian Premier league for Sunrisers Hyderabad, has called up his mentor Mohammad Salahuddin to work with him.
Shakib, who played only the opening game for Hyderabad and has since been unable to make it to the playing XI, has urged Salahuddin to work on both his skills and mental aspect during his off time during the IPL.
Salahuddin, whose Dhaka Premier League (DPL) side Gazi Group Cricketers were unable to make it to the Super League stage also acknowledged his pupil's call as he is expected to fly for Hyderabad today, where he will work with the champion all-rounder.
"Shakib called me and wanted to work with me during the IPL games as he wanted to prepare himself. I won't go there to work specifically on his technique or mental aspect, as I will work with him in general. It is not only as preparation for the World Cup; we will discuss his game in general,” Salahuddin told The Daly Star yesterday.
The Tigers' World Cup squad -- which is set to be named on April 18 -- is expected to start their conditioning camp from April 22 before departing for Ireland for the tri-nation ODI series. There is a very slim chances of Shakib joining the camp; instead, he is expected to join the team in Ireland.
Salahuddin is expected to work with Shakib during this period as Shakib, who is sitting not getting much IPL game time, is willing to prepare himself individually for the world cup.
