'Secretive Works of an Outsider'
Self-taught artist Owazuddin Mamun is portraying lived reality, stories, emotions and more at a solo show under way Kalakendra on Iqbal Road in Mohammadpur. The show 'Secretive Works of an Outsider' features a total of twenty mixed media abstract artworks.
The exhibition, organized by Kalakendra and curate by Wakilur Rahman, commenced on August 24. Dean of Dhaka University's fine arts faculty Nisar Hossain was present as special guest at the inaugural ceremony of the exhibition. 'Owazuddin's forms of expression is very unique, hence his artworks are also unique. Each and every one of his work tells a personal story. He used water colour, oil paint, colour pencils and ball-point pens along with elements related to the experiences and things he saw in his lifetime,' curator Wakilur Rahman said.
A displayed mixed media work on paper titled 'Ki Bolbi Bol Ekti Kabita' depicts a huge heart shape in the middle of the canvas comprised of rice grains with a box shape in the centre. Apart from this, huge eyes can be seen bordering the heart. Another mixed media on paper work titled 'Moushumi Hamid' shows three square boxes linked to each other diagonally while different shapes and colours are present throughout the work, green being the dominating colour.
Besides, he has displayed artworks named 'Prithibir Jonno Shwapno', 'Amar Shashuri Amma', 'Amar Jibon', 'Prio Boudi', '16th July Katrina Kaif Er Jonmodin', 'Amar Shontaner Naamey Duiti Chitro' and others. Owazuddin never received any formal education on art. His works were brought to the Dhaka University's fine arts faculty's dean Nisar Hossain's office by the artist Shahabuddin Sheikh. When asked where he found them, he replied that these were found in the dustbin of the institution.
