Sadia Khalid from Bangladesh to judge in Cannes Festival
Bangladesh's filmmaker Sadia Khalid is going to the south-western coastal city of France. She has been invited to judge the International Federation of Film Critics (IFFC). There will be a great responsibility for her to select the best films in the 72nd edition of the Cannes Festival. This year's prestigious World Film Awards will be held on May 14.
Some of the best films in the Cannes Film Festival are also awarded in some organizations as free of rewards. Among them, one of the best is IFFC. Apart from Bangladesh, there are two Frenchmen in the IFFC's panel and a film critic by Portugal, Denmark, Norway, USA, Belgium and Israel.
Sadia Khalid said that being a judge at the Cannes Film Festival is a matter of great honor. I feel fortunate to present women as well as representation of women filmmakers. I will leave for France on May 13. Sadia Khalid studied at the University of California, Los Angeles. This filmmaker has been active from 2014 at IFFC's Bangladesh branch, International Film Critics Association of Bangladesh (IFCB). Two years later, she joined in IFFC.
As movie critic there are many writings of her. She teaches in ULAB, Pathshala, Shilpakala and Bangladesh Critics of Television Institute (BCTI). Since last year, she took part in several festivals as judges. Among them, Italy's Religious Today, India's Siliguri Shorts and Documentaries, Nepal's Human Rights, Dhaka International Film Festival etc. "Being a judge at the Cannes Film Festival is a matter of great honor. I am fortunate to represent Bangladesh as well as representation of women through this film," she said to media.
Earlier from Bangladesh, only Ahmed Mujtaba Jamal was the judge of IFFC. In 2002 he received this honor for the first time. Then in 2005 and 2009, he was seen twice in the IFFC Judge's seat. After 10 years, the Bangladesh Film Critics received an invitation from the International Federation of Film Critics for the Cannes festival again after the formation of Sadia Khalid. Among the girls of Bangladesh, she became the first IFFC judge.
