Sachin Dev Burman Fest begins
Renowned local and Indian artistes are paying tribute to singer-composer Sachin Dev Burman presenting his popular songs at a three-day Sachin Dev Burman Festival ongoing at the Shawkat Osman Memorial Auditorium of Central Public Library. Cultural organisation Banhishikha has organised the festival for fifth consecutive year to promote and popularise Burman's songs among the young generation. Finance minister Abul Maal Abdul Muhith inaugurated the festival as the chief guest on Friday.
The inaugural ceremony was also attended by Bangladesh Ganosangeet Samannay Parishad president Fakir Alamgir, Bangladesh Sammilita Sangskritik Jote president Ghulam Quddus and IFIC Bank managing director Shah A Sarwar.
'Born into the Tripura royal family, Sachin Dev Burman, also known as Sachin Karta, engaged himself totally in music from an early age to eventually become one of the most revered singer-composers in the Indian sub-continent. I am happy that Banhishikha has been organising Sachin Dev Burman festival regularly to promote the maestro,' said Muhith.
'Singer-composer Sachin Dev Burman enthralled music lovers of the Indian subcontinent with his Bangla and Hindi songs and compositions. The maestro is still popular among music lovers for his timeless romantic songs,' said Ghulam Quddus.
Following the inauguration, Banhishikha artistes commenced the music show rendering two popular songs of Sachin Dev Burman Tumi ar nei shey tumi and Nitol paye. Local renowned singer Chandana Majumder paid tribute to Burman by singing the maestro's famous songs Banshi shun aar kaj nai and Ke jaashre.
Assamese singer Manjushree Das captivated the audience rendering Bangla and Hindi songs composed by Burman. Das began her performance with Barne gandhe chhande and went on to present Shono go dakhino hawa, Bhromora keno kotha, Tumi esheychhile porshu and the maestro's Hindi compositions including Tadbeer se bigdi huyi, Rangila kaise jadu kiya and others.
