Rohingya repatriation delayed, but investigation to continue: ICC
International Criminal Court (ICC) said the investigation and trial into each case would continue even though Rohingya repatriation is delayed.

Phakiso Mochochoko, director of the Office of the Prosecutor of ICC briefed media at a city hotel on Tuesday afternoon (February 4).

Phakiso Mochochoko said: “Rohingya repatriation and investigation - trial are two different issues. The Rohingya repatriation is a matter of Bangladesh, Myanmar and the international community. However, investigation and trial of the Rohingya persecution are separate issues. Although repatriation is delayed, investigation and trial process will not stop.”

Phakiso, an advisor to the ICC prosecutor, said that although Myanmar is not a signatory to the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court, the ICC's trial will not be affected.

In response to a question, Phakiso Mochochoko said: “We have launched an investigation into the Rohingya atrocities. We will continue our work, even if Myanmar does not offer any kind of cooperation in the ICC’s investigation, or does not allow us entry into the country. Rohingya brutality will be judged today or tomorrow.”
