Riyad reaches landmark 2k in style
After Mominul Haque reached 2000 Test runs during his 175-run knock yesterday, this time it is Mahmudullah Riyad, who accomplishes the feat on Day 2 of Tigers’ first Test against Sri Lanka.
Riyad, who started the day on an overnight score of 15, needed 54 runs more to reach the landmark of 2000 Test runs. In the 126th over of the Tigers’ innings, Riyad smashed Lakshan Sandakan through the covers for four to bring up the personal landmark. He proceeded to hit Sandakan straight down the ground for six in order to cap the personal achievement with a maximum. Mahmudullah reached the landmark in 66 innings for the Tigers.
Riyad remained unbeaten on 83 as Tigers folded for 513 in their first innings, only managing to add 139 runs to their overnight score of 374/4.
