'Rickshaw Girl' renamed as 'Naimar Rong'
'Aynabaji' director Amitabh Reza Chowdhury has renamed his upcoming feature film as 'Naimar Rong', which was initially named 'Rickshaw Girl'. Since the information ministry has been discouraging naming a local film in English, Rickshaw Girl has been renamed 'Naimar Rong', informed Amitabh Reza Chowdhury.
'In the last three-four years, the information ministry has been discouraging naming local films in English. The censor board also encourages about not using English names. That is why, we have changed the name,' said the director, whose debut film 'Aynabaji' was the biggest hit in 2016. The shooting for 'Naimar Rong', which is Reza's second feature film, has started in April. The film is based on Mitali Perkins' bestselling 2007 young adult novel Rickshaw Girl.
Revolving around the life of Naima, a painter of traditional motifs, the novel was chosen by New York Public Library as one of the 100 best children's books of the last 100 years. Bangladesh-born American writer Sharbari Z Ahmed, who has earned plaudits as a screenwriter for ABC's TV show 'Quantico,' has written the screenplay for the film. Novera Rahman is acting in the role of Naima. The film will also feature a cameo by Dhallywood superstar Shakib Khan.
