Poet Al Mahmud hospitalised
Noted poet Al Mahmud was admitted to Ibn Sina Hospital in Dhaka on Friday.
His personal assistant Abid Azam said Al Mahmud was admitted to the hospital in Dhanmondi area as he fell sick. Later, he was shifted to Coronary Care Unit (CCU) on Saturday evening following deterioration of his condition and then to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) around 12:25am on Sunday, according to a Bangla newsportal.
Abid also said "The condition of the poet is critical. We urges all to pray for him."
The 82-year-old veteran poet has been suffering from various old age complications.
Al Mahmud, also a journalist, was born in July 11, 1936, in Brahmanbaria district. His real name is Mir Abdus Shukur Al Mahmud.
He was honoured with Ekushey Padak, Bangla Academy Award, and Kabi Jasim Uddin Award in recognition of his contribution to Bengali literature.
