PM: Use modern solutions to save local varities of fishes from extinction
Primary Minister Sheikh Hasina today stressed the need for using developed and modern methods to save the local varities of fishes from extinction.

“Coming out of the original methods, we’ve to adopt developed and modern ones to protect regional species of fishes right from extinction,” she said following inaugurating the National Fisheries Week, 2020.

The premier formally opened the week by releasing fish fries into Ganabhaban lake here this mornin, reports BSS.

The National Fisheries Week has been observed in the united states this season from July 21 to July 27.

The theme of the week is “Machh Utpadan Briddhi Kori, Shukhi Samriddha Desh Gori (Why don't we increase fish production and create a happy and prosperous country)”.

The premier pointed out that the united states has 475 varities of sea fish and 250 species of freshwater fish alongside lobstar, crabs and snails which have an enormous demand at local and international markets.

The premier said the investment in fisheries sector generates employments in a single hand, while it makes the countrywide economy prosperous on the other hand.

Spelling out her government’s timely measures meant for overall advancement of the fisheries sector, she said the development of fishes has raised by 50 percent within the last 11 years.

Bangladesh ranked second position on growth rate of making freshwater fishes according to a written report of the UN’s Foodstuff and Agriculture Firm (FAO), she mentioned.

The premier highly appreciated all concerned because of their efforts to improve fish production alongside continuing its distribution and export regardless of the health risk amid the coronavirus pandemic.

“Bangladesh is currently self-reliant in fish creation. We, per brain, are currently spending 62.58 grammes fishes daily against the demand of 62 grammes,” she added.

The premier called after all to maintain their strides to improve fish production in the greater interest of the country.

“Our main aim for is to earn foreign currencies by increasing fish creation alongside meeting nourishment demand of the persons and generate huge work,” she continued.

In this context, the premier recalled the remarks of Father of the country Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman that fisheries would be the second main sector in earning foreign currency.

She said Bangabandhu first released fish fries in to the lake of Ganabhaban in 1973 to encourage the countrymen in raising fish production.

Fisheries and Livestock Minister SM Rezaul Karim, Secretary of the ministry Rawnak Mahmud, PMO Secretary Md Tofazzel Hossain Miah and PM’s Press Secretary Ihsanul Karim were present on the event, among others.
