PM offers 500 acres land in SEZs for Singapore investors
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Tuesday offered the Singapore investors 500 acres of land in the Special Economic Zones (SEZs) for setting up industries.
The prime minister made this proposal when visiting delegation of Singapore Business Federation (SBF) called on her at her Sangsad Bhaban office here.
Chairman of the Singapore Business Federation S. S. Toe led the six-member delegation.
Briefing reporters after the meeting, PM’s press secretary Ihsanul Karim said the prime minister primarily offered the land to the Singaporean delegation saying the government would consider providing more land in future for setting up their industries in Bangladesh.
The prime minister during her last visit in Singapore invited the Singaporean investors to invest in Bangladesh and assured them of giving land in the SEZs to set up their industries.
The business delegation expressed satisfaction over very possible response from the Bangladesh Economic Zone Authority (BEZA) and Bangladesh Export Processing Zone Authority.
Welcoming their visit to Bangladesh, the prime minister called for setting up of agro-based food processing industries in Bangladesh.
The prime minister said Bangladesh can be the bridge between East Asia and West Asia due to its geographical location.
The delegation highly appreciated the economic growth of Bangladesh particularly the prime minister for her hard work for development of Bangladesh.
The prime minister laid emphasis on continuation of the dialogue at official and business level between the two countries to boost up economic ties.
Other members of the delegation were President of Bangladesh Business Chamber of Singapore Md. Shahiduzzaman, Vice Chairman of Singapore-India Commerce and Industry Prasoon Mukherjee, Assistant Executive Director of Singapore Business Federation Cody Lee, Senior Development Partner of Enterprise Singapore Ms Sabrina Ho and Vice President of DBS Bank of Singapore Lewis Alexander Guneratne.
Saber Hossain Chowdhury, MP, Principal Coordinator of the Prime Minister Office on SDG Affairs Abul Kalam Azad, Executive Chairman of Bangladesh Investment Development Authority Kazi M. Aminul Islam and Singapore High Commissioner to Bangladesh Derek Loh were present.
