Partisan slogans from govt letterheads must go: Oikyafront
Jatiya Oikyafront on Monday urged the Election Commission to remove all the partisan slogans like 'Democracy of development, main mantra of Sheikh Hasina' from the letterheads used for writing government letters.
Bijon Kanti Sarkar, BNP's advisory council member, submitted a letter, on behalf of the Oikyafront, to EC Secretary Helaluddin Ahmed at Nirbachan Bhaban in the city to this end.
Talking to reporters after emerging from the EC, Bijon Kanti said these types of slogan are written on the letterhead of Awami League and those are also available on government letters issued by different offices. "We've urged the EC to take steps to erase the slogans from government letters during the election period," he said.
He also alleged that presiding officers and polling officers were being harassed by law enforcers as they were enquiring about the families and relatives of the election officials which left them embarrassed.
About the use of electronic voting machines in the election, the BNP leader said they do not want the EVM use in any polling centre. "And we've urged the EC to refrain from using EVMs in the election."
