Opposition Chief Whip Tajul Islam Chowdhury passes away
Chief Whip of the opposition in parliament Tajul Islam Chowdhury died at Dhaka’s United Hospital Monday (August 13) night.

He was 73.

He breathed his last at 11:50pm.

He is survived by his wife, two sons and a daughter. 

Rashed, personal assistant to the deceased, confirmed the matter to Banglanews.

The opposition chief whip was suffering from kidney complications, he said.

Tajul Islam Chowdhury’s first namaj-e-janaza will be held at the South Plaza of the Sangsad Bhaban Tuesday (August 15). Another janaza will be held at the deceased’s village home in Kurigram, on Wednesday (August 16). 

Tajul Islam Chowdhury was elected Member of Parliament (MP) from Kurigram-2 constituency seven times. His ancestral home is in Sabujpara area of Kurigram sadar upazila.   

Former president also Jatiya Party Chairman HM Ershad, Opposition Leader in Parliament Rowshan Ershad, Jatiya Party Co-Chairman GM Quader, Secretary General ABM Ruhul Amin Howlader, Local Government and Rural Development & Cooperatives Minister Khandker Mosharraf Hossain expressed profound shock at the death of the veteran politician.
